One thing we highly recommend - Go to this Wiki's notifications page and enable wiki-wide notifications (you can always turn it off later). This wiki will only be successful if it is active, and notifications are a great way to know if there is new activity. More info can be found at Can I be notified when things change?

What's the basic idea?
This site is a resource for the teachers of the various Middle School Technology Education courses taught in AISD including Tech Ed, Computer Apps, and more. It is intended to be a place the we can ask questions as well as share our best lesson plans and resources. It is only as good as the contributions of the members, so the more you share, the more others will share will you.

Your shared documents will not be reviewed and/or criticized; we simply consider them as resources you have compiled. You don't even have to identify yourself as the author.

How do I upload or share my documents?
Sharing your documents is easy. Remember, your shared documents will not be reviewed and/or criticized; we simply consider them as resources you have compiled. You don't even have to identify yourself as the author.

To share a new resource, simply follow these steps:
  1. First, select the document to want to share. You can upload any type of file, but a Word document (or something else editable) would be preferred over a PDF.
  2. Next, go to the page that you are uploading a resource for. For example, if you are sharing a set of worksheets for TechCenter 21, you would go to the TechCenter 21 page. If a page does not exist, create one. If the resource applies to multiple pages, go to one of the pages and later add a link to the other page.
  3. Next click the EDIT button on the upper right of the page. This puts the page in edit mode.
See How do I edit a wiki page? for a picture.
  4. Scroll down to the appropriate section of the page and click the location that you wish to place to link to your file.
  5. Click the File button in the Editor toolbar at the top of the page.
  6. On the Images and Files window that opens, click the + Upload Files button, and on the window that opens, select your file and click Ok. Your file will be uploaded and appear on the list of files to the left.
  7. Now that your file is uploaded, on the right side of the Images and Files window, change the 'Click to' action from 'Embed' to 'Link To' (if it is not already)
  8. Finally, click your file from the list of files on the left side of the Images and Files window. A link will be inserted into your document. Feel free to revise the title of the link (it defaults to your filename). It's best if the description is meaningful vs. just a cryptic filename.
  9. When you are done uploading and linking files, click Save on the Editor window at the top.
See How do I edit a wiki page? for a picture.

If you want to simply link to an existing resource (like a document applies to multiple pages), follow the above steps but skip the step where you upload the file. A simpler way would be to just copy and paste the link from the first page to the second.

Can I be notified when things change?
Absolutely, you can be notified of any changes to the entire wiki or just certain pages. Click the 'Notify Me' tab at the top of each page to set notification preferences. If you want to be notified on all changes, there is a link to enable that on the 'Notify Me' tab or you can click Set Global Notifications.
We would recommend setting the notification on for everything and then go back to turning on only select pages if there is too much activity.

There are also RSS feeds available for the whole site or individual pages. See the 'Notify Me' tab for more information.

How do I edit a wiki page?
Simply navigated to the page you want to edit and click the EDIT button on the upper right of the page as shown below.

What is the discussion tab for? What goes on a wiki page and what goes in a discussion?
Where a wiki page is a collaboratively edited web page, the Discussion tab is for asking and answering particular questions. The discussions can be search and individual discussions can be monitored for changes (or you can simply be notified on any changes throughout the site - see Can I be notified when things change? for more info).
